Arts and drama

If you're interested in the arts or drama we have a lot to offer - the College hosts regular exhibitions and events.

Arts at Jesus

Jesus is the home of the University Visual Arts Society, which organises regular presentations and talks by noted contemporary artists and sculptors.

We have a permanent sculpture exhibition in the grounds of the College, and hold a biennial Sculpture in the Close exhibition.

Our undergraduates also have an art collection which includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints by a variety of artists, many well known. For a small deposit, you can borrow pieces from the collection to decorate your rooms.

Students run the annual John Hughes Arts Festival, an interdisciplinary celebration of openness, spectacle, and collaboration which usually includes an Open Hang Gallery featuring artwork submitted by students, artists, and friends of the College.

Other events include a comedy night, a life drawing session, a tour of our art and sculpture collection, as well as poetry readings, performances and talks from special guests.

Drama at Jesus

We have a thriving drama society which actively supports new student writing and performance of all kinds, including comedy.

In recent years the society has funded a number of plays and performances, based in the College and beyond. It has a reputation for supporting experimental work and new student writing, and a number of students at Jesus College have been actively involved in writing, acting, and production.

Although we don't have our own theatre a number of spaces around College are well suited for different kinds of performance: the Hall, Chapel, and gardens have all been used for performances.
