The College Choir with the The Chanticleer Singers, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Nelson Mandela's birth

South Africa 2018

The summer of 2018 saw the College Choir tour South Africa for two weeks, singing liturgical services and concerts.

The first stop was in Grahamstown, singing Eucharist in the Cathedral of St Michael and St George and in Kingswood Chapel as part of the National Arts Festival. Further stops took in Knysna and Cape Town, with concerts at the United Reformed Church, Thembalethu and with Desmond Tutu High School. A visit to Life Community Services involved singing and playing football with the children and helping to repaint their jungle gym! The final leg of the tour was in Johannesburg, singing at St George’s Church, Ekklesia Park Old Age Home, and in Kliptown, Soweto.

The trip was rounded off with a concert sung jointly with the Chanticleer Singers, celebrating 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela. When not performing, rehearsing, or travelling, choir members enjoyed visits to Addo Elephant Park, Seal Island, Gold Reef City theme park, and the penguin colony at Cape Point Nature Reserve.
